Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns, III, Chief of Detectives John J. Kuczynski and Flemington Borough Police Lieutenant Jerry Rotella announced that a joint investigation by the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Flemington Borough Police Department has led to the arrest of one individual on sexual assault charges.
On November 29, 2016, Ernesto Mendez, age 25, of Flemington, NJ, was arrested and charged with one count of 2nd degree Aggravated Sexual Assault and one count of 3rd degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
An investigation by detectives from the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Flemington Borough Police Department revealed, between August 2014 and November 2016, the defendant engaged in sexual relations with a child under the age of 16. On November 12, 2016, Mr. Mendez was arrested and charged with burglary by the Flemington Borough Police Department. The defendant’s bail on the burglary charge is $15,000.
The Honorable Angela F. Borkowski, J.S.C. set bail on the defendant at $50,000. The defendant was lodged in the Somerset County Jail and is awaiting his first court appearance.
