Indianapolis, IN- Thanks to the public’s tips, phone calls and messages, the red Ford pickup that was captured on the professional driver’s dash cam yesterday morning on I-465 EB just after the fatal crash has been located and eliminated as the hit and run vehicle.
 
Yesterday afternoon a professional driver traveling on I-465 WB near the location and time of the fatal crash provided ISP investigators with a video that captured a red Ford pickup traveling EB with what appeared to be front damage. A still frame photo from that video was made available to traditional and social media. Thanks to the publics assistance detectives were able to locate the truck and speak with the owner. Investigators have eliminated this vehicle and driver of having any involvement in the fatal crash.
 
Indiana State Police troopers continue to investigate all leads and encourage anyone with any information to contact Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS. (8477) Callers can remain anonymous.

*Update-Pedestrian on I-465 Killed by Hit and Run Driver-Update*
 
Indianapolis, IN- Indiana State Police investigators working the hit and run fatal crash this morning on I-465 EB at the .08mm have obtained additional information.
 
Included in this release is a still photo obtained from a dash cam video supplied to detectives by a professional driver traveling on I-465 WB near the crash scene at approximately the time the crash occurred. On the left side of the photo is what appears to be a red Ford pickup with possible damage to the right side. This is a description of the pickup that witnesses reported left the scene after the crash.
 
Further information has revealed that the red Ford pickup may have been speeding on EB I-465 just prior to the crash which occurred between 8:10 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. Detectives are asking anyone EB that may have witnessed this or perhaps any other professional drivers with dash cams that may have been passed by the pickup truck and have a possible video to contact Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS. Also, if you stopped at the scene of the crash but left prior to speaking to officer’s, investigators are asking you to contact them, even if you believe what you witnessed may not be pertinent.

Pedestrian on I-465 Killed by Hit and Run Driver
 
Indianapolis, IN- A hit and run crash this morning on I-465 just after rush hour has claimed the life of a Rushville, IN man.
 
This morning at approximately 8:15 a.m. Indiana State troopers were notified of a personal injury crash on I-465 EB at the .08 mm (approximately one half mile west of I-65 SB).
 
Preliminary crash investigation and witness statements revealed that a crane being operated by Jeffrey A. Smith, 53, of Rushville IN, had mechanical issues and was parked on the right shoulder emergency berm of I-465 EB at the .08mm.The drivers’ side of the crane, or left side, was seven feet off of the right lane of I-465 with the emergency flashers activated. A mechanic from R.H. Marlin Inc., the owner of the crane, had arrived in a separate vehicle and was under the crane making repairs. Mr. Smith was standing on the emergency berm between the crane and the right lane of I-465.
 
According to witness accounts, a red or maroon Ford pickup truck went off the right side of I-465 onto the emergency berm and struck Mr. Smith with the front right of the vehicle. The pickup did not stop and continued EB on I-465. It is unknown at this time why the driver did not stop. The pickup should have extensive front right side damage. Mr. Smith was pronounced deceased at the scene. The mechanic was not injured.
 
Indiana State Police crash Reconstructionist and the Marion County Coroner’s office continue with the investigation. An autopsy will be performed on Wednesday.
