On 12/01/2016 just after 4:00 pm, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office was called to a residence in the 9400 block of east US 20 in Steuben County’s rural York Township to assist the Williams County (OH) Sheriff’s Office with a burglary investigation. Once at the residence, Sheriff’s deputies made contact with the property owner and occupant identified as 31 year old Jonathan Allen Depew. During a subsequent consented search of the detached garage, deputies located what was believed to be items stolen in a Williams County, Ohio burglary. A search warrant was obtained and a complete search of the entire property was conducted. During the execution of the search warrant, several items reported stolen from a Williams County property were located along with several items commonly associated with the use of Marijuana. Sheriff’s detectives were then called to the scene to assist in the investigation. Depew was taken into custody at the scene and transported the Sheriff’s Office for questioning. Following an interview with detectives, Depew was booked into the Steuben County Jail on three level 6 felony counts of auto theft/receiving stolen auto parts, illegal possession of a legend drug, and maintaining a common nuisance. Depew was also charged with two misdemeanor counts of possession of Marijuana and possession of paraphernalia. Depew remains held in lieu of a $12,500 bond. The Indiana State Police also assisted the Steuben County and Williams County Sheriff’s Offices at the scene.
