Lake County-- On Decemeber 1, 2016 at approximately 4:00 p.m., Indiana State Police were dispatched to a single vehicle personal injury crash at the 13 mile marker of I-80 in Gary/Lake Station. Upon arrival at the scene, Troopers Carlson and Trooper Brasseur discovered the driver of the vehicle unresponsive. A good samaritan was administering CPR with the assistance of Hoosier Helpers. Trooper Carlson took over CPR while Trooper Brasseur assembled his issued NARCAN kit. Two doses of Naloxone were then administered to the unconscious subject. The subject was then transported to NorthLake Hospital in Gary. While enroute to the hospital, the subject regained consciousness and survived the crash/incident. The driver was identifed as Shane C. Evans, 44, of Crown Point, IN.
The lifesaving “Narcan” training that Indiana State Troopers received was crucial in the reviving of Mr. Evans. Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of passing motorist David Recio, Hoosier Helper’s and quick actions of Trp. Brasseur, Trp. Carlson and Lake County EMS, a life was saved.
