"Porch Pirate" Arrest
After releasing images and video showing the theft of a package from a front porch, Campbell Detectives have identified and arrested the suspect responsible for the theft.
On November 18, 2016, at approximately 4:08 pm, home surveillance video captured a female suspect removing a package from the front porch of a residence in Campbell. At that time, there was no identifying information on the suspect or the vehicle she fled in.
During the introduction of the Campbell Police Department’s bait package program earlier this week, the video of the theft was released to the media. The release of the video resulted in several tips regarding the possible identity of the suspect. Campbell detectives were able to use that information to identify and locate the suspect responsible for the theft.
On December 2, 2016, at approximately 9:30 am, Sara Lisa Loretz, 27 years old of San Jose, was arrested at her home. She admitted to the theft in Campbell as well as other porch package thefts in the area. The Campbell Police Department is asking victims of recent package theft in the Campbell/Willow Glen/West San Jose/Los Gatos area to check surveillance video to see if the suspect in their theft matches the description of Ms. Loretz.
During the investigation, detectives located several items of stolen property including baby clothes and a collector’s edition magazine. Our Investigations Division is continuing to follow up on additional leads.
Ms. Loretz was booked in to the Santa Clara County Main Jail for possession of a controlled substance and under the influence of a controlled substance. The case regarding the package theft will be sent to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office for review since it occurred two weeks ago.
The Campbell Police Department is committed to reducing property crimes this holiday season and beyond. Our officers will continue investigating porch thefts and proactively placing GPS “bait packages” throughout the City. The message to potential thieves is clear: Don’t come to the City of Campbell to steal packages!
