STOLEN VEHICLE RECOVERED; FAMILY CONTINUES TRIP TO NEW HOME
On Sunday, December 4th, 2016 at approximately 9:28 am, Officers from the Anderson Police Department were on patrol and received a BOLO of a stolen 20 foot long U-Haul box truck out of Redding, CA. The U-Haul contained approximately $60,000 worth of property that belonged to a couple from Oregon who were moving to another state.
An APD Officer was on patrol and spotted the U-Haul in the yard of a residence in the 1900 block of Anna Road and called for backup. APD Officers observed a male suspect, later identified as John Christopher Hanks, 43 years old of San Pablo CA, rummaging through items from the U-Haul.
Officer’s announced their presence and ordered Hanks to comply. Hanks refused to comply and ran into a nearby residence. Hanks eventually exited the rear of the residence, jumped the back fence, and fled on foot in a wooded area.
Shortly after, Officer’s received a report from a nearby resident who called in reporting a male subject was in her yard and jumped over her fence near Jaqueline Street. The male subject fled that area near Highway 273.
APD Officer’s and Shasta County Sheriff Deputies responded to the area and located Hanks on Highway 273 where he was arrested. Hanks was arrested for the suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property, and resisting arrest.
All the property that was in the U-Haul was located and returned to the owner’s to continue their trip to their new home.
