On Monday, December 5, 2016, at about 3:00 PM Officers with the Anderson Police Department were investigating a report theft in the area of N. Barney St. and the Highway 273 pedestrian bridge just south of South St.

Officers located a white male adult living in a make shift shelter consisting of cardboard and blankets under the pedestrian bridge. Officers contacted the subject who provided them with a false name. A records check revealed no prior with the subject and no record of a driver’s license or identification card.

The Officers did not believe the subject was providing them with a true and valid name. The Officers therefore told the subject he would be booked into the Shasta County Jail for marijuana possession and unlawful camping within the City of Anderson instead of being cited and released as he could not prove his identity.

The subject then provided the Officers with his true name. The subject was identified as Tyler Charles RUIZ, age 27, of Nevada. A records check revealed RUIZ to be a registered sex offender for the crime of “statutory sexual seduction”, and for him to have an active warrant for his arrest out of Lyon County Nevada for failing to register as a sex offender.

RUIZ admitted to camping in Anderson for about five to seven days. RUIZ admitted to giving other law enforcement agencies false names during his travels between Nevada and Anderson.

RUIZ was placed under arrest and booked into the Shasta County Jail on his no bail warrant.

Officers will be seeking additional charges against RUIZ for flight from prosecution, failing to register as a sex-offender in California, and possession of marijuana over one ounce.
