Keeping your Holidays Happy and your Property Secure
The holidays bring plenty of gift giving and celebrations. However, while you are out buying more gifts and enjoying the many festivities; some criminals have thoughts of the unattended presents left at home. Other criminals are watching stressed out shoppers looking for last-minute gifts or absent minded shoppers rushing in and out of stores, loading up their cars with their new purchases. Statistics show that crime usually increases during and after the holiday season as opportunities increase.
Remember:
- When you are out of your home:
o Turn on lights, music or a TV so your home looks occupied
o Be sure to lock all doors and windows ****including the pedestrian door leading to the attached garage
o Do not display gifts where they can be seen from outside
o If you are having gifts delivered to your home, make sure someone is there to accept them. If not, request the package be sent to the nearest post office
- When you are out shopping:
o Stay alert of what is going on around you
o Park in well-lighted space
o Be sure to lock your car, close windows and hide shopping bags /gifts in the trunk or out of site
o Avoid carrying large amounts of cash; pay with credit, debit or checks
o Carry only the credit cards you will be using
o Call immediately if you have a lost or stolen credit card
o Don’t over burden yourself with packages
