Santa Maria Firefighters Extinguish House Fire

SANTA MARIA FIREFIGHTERS EXTINGUISH HOUSE FIRE
Santa Maria Firefighters spent Friday afternoon battling a house fire in the 300 block of West Orchard Street. The call came in at approximately 1:30 pm. The first arriving crew reported heavy smoke coming from the front of the home as well as the roof. An aggressive fire attack in coordination with vertical ventilation brought the blaze under control in approximately 15-20 minutes. In total, four engines, one ladder truck and one Battalion Chief responded to the fire. One home next door also received minor damage from fire extension. Firefighters were able to locate and retrieve two dogs in the backyard. Santa Maria Police Department personnel assisted with traffic control and evacuating neighboring homes. Coverage for the city was provided by Santa Barbara County Fire and San Luis Obispo County Cal Fire while Santa Maria units were tied up. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Red Cross was also requested to assist the displaced residents. No injuries were reported.
