Officers and firefighters arrived on the scene a short time later and began to investigate.

Based on witness statements and evidence at the scene, it appears that a 2008 Dodge Charger was initially traveling southbound on SR 37 when it approached the intersection of Field Drive. Statements indicate that the driver was attempting to travel eastbound on 186th Street (Field Drive) when he pulled out into the path of a 1999 Volkswagen Passat that was traveling northbound on SR 37. The driver of the Dodge stated that his view was obstructed by other vehicles in the intersection that were allegedly attempting to turn westbound on Field Drive from northbound SR 37.

The driver of the Dodge was identified as James J. Alvis, 45, of Noblesville, IN. Alvis was transported by ground ambulance to Riverview Health (Noblesville) with minor injuries. There were no passengers in the vehicle. Alvis is employed by the City of Fishers (Fisher Police Department) and was off-duty operating a department-issued police vehicle at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Volkswagen is identified as Ritch L. Goodwin, 51, of Cicero, IN. Goodwin was transported by ground ambulance to I.U. Health Methodist (Indianapolis). There are no details available at this time regarding his injuries. There were no passengers in the vehicle.

Investigators from the NPD Accident Reconstruction Unit were summons to the scene to collect evidence and gather information. As a result of the investigation, northbound traffic on SR 37 was either restricted and/or closed between SR 32 and 191st Street. Northbound lanes are projected to reopen at approximately 9:00 p.m.

This remains an ongoing investigation.
