Snowfall Creates Busy Day for Indianapolis Area Troopers
Indianapolis - Snowfall in the Indianapolis Metropolitan Area caused hazardous road conditions throughout much of the day. Troopers from the Indianapolis District responded to 68 crashes between 5:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Of those crashes, 13 resulted in injuries. There were also dozens of slide-offs and disabled vehicles. The Indianapolis District included, Marion, Hamilton, Hancock, Shelby, Johnson, Hendricks, and Boone Counties.
Some crashes resulted in lane or road closures, with the most affected being the closure of I-70 in both directions in Hancock County. Because of numerous crashes in both directions near SR 9, I-70 was closed for nearly 2 hours today. Fortunately, none of the reported injuries appear to be life threatening.
Most of the area interstates are clear at this time, however the shoulders remain snow covered and hazardous. We would like to remind motorists to slow down, increase following distance and make sure all snow is cleared from windows and lights.
