UPCOMING SOBRIETY CHECKPOINT
Date / Time: Friday December 16, 2016 from 9:00pm through 2:00am
Press Release Prepared By: Lieutenant Sean Conley
____________________________________________________________________________________
In November 2016, the Walnut Creek Police Department was awarded a grant from OTS (Office of Traffic Safety) to address DUI violations, Distracted Driving violations, and Pedestrian/Bicycle safety. Several enforcement/education events will be taking place in 2016/2017 as part of this grant in an effort to improve safety on our roadways. As part of this grant, a DUI/Driver’s license checkpoint will take place this Friday December 16, 2016. The purpose of the checkpoint is to provide education regarding drinking and driving, as well as reduce the number of impaired drivers/unlicensed drivers within the city limits.
The sobriety checkpoint will be located on Lawrence Way north of Parkside Drive, near the onramp to Northbound 680. Hours of operation will be approximately 9:00pm until 2:00am.
WCPD encourages anyone who intends to drink, to make plans to have a “designated driver” or arrange to take a cab ride home. WCPD appreciates everyone’s support and help at making our streets safe from impaired drivers.
