The City of Chula Vista announces Chief Bejarano is retiring December 30, 2016 after 35 years in public service. In August of 2009, Chief Bejarano was appointed as Chula Vista’s 23rd police chief and leads a department of 227 sworn officers, 90 civilian employees and more than 100 volunteers with a budget of about $50 million.

Bejarano started his career at the San Diego Police Department in 1979 as a sworn officer working various assignments. In 1999 Bejarano was appointed the San Diego’s 32nd police chief. In 2003 he was appointed by then-President George W. Bush as the U.S. Marshal for San Diego and Imperial counties.

In 2015, Chief Bejarano was selected president of the California Police Chiefs Association, which is influential in the California’s legislative process.

The Police Department employees want to thank Chief Bejarano for his leadership and guidance over the years. We wish you a long and happy retirement.
