Putnamville Troopers Accept Generous Donation for Bolt for the Heart

Carlisle—On Wednesday afternoon December 14th, the Indiana Department of Corrections Wabash Valley Correctional Facility presented the Indiana State Police with a check in the amount of $1, 500 for the Bolt for the Heart program currently underway in Indiana. The BFTH organization will then use 100% of this donation to purchase AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) for troopers, with a goal to outfit every Indiana State Police trooper with an AED.

The donation came from the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility Fatherhood and PLUS (Purposeful Living Units Serve) programs. “We could not think of a better way to give back to the community” stated Michele Lincoln Programs Director. In addition, PLUS Program Coordinator Jackie Storm commented, “AEDs have saved staff and offender lives here at Wabash Valley so we know how effective they will be in the hands of the state police.

“Our mission each and every day is to help our citizens and one of those ways is through first responder medical assistance. This donation will significantly enhance our capabilities and we are proud to receive such a donation from our criminal justice partner, the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility”, stated ISP Public Information Officer Sergeant Joe Watts of the Putnamville Post.

To date, the Bolt for the Heart organization has donated more than 200 AEDs to Indiana State Police troopers. “Three instances in Indiana in which an AED was applied were administered by an Indiana State Police trooper, and those three individuals were successfully resuscitated and have gone on to live meaningful lives”, said Pierre Twer, president of Bolt for the Heart.
