Crash Between Semi and Van Kills Wisconsin Man ***UPDATE***
(Steuben County, IN)-The Indiana State Police is continuing its investigation into a two vehicle crash which killed a man from Wisconsin this morning on the Indiana Toll Road.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Shon Hoeppner indicates at approximately 9:10 a.m., a 1999 Ford van driven by 37 year old Jason W. Mateer of Racine, Wisconsin was traveling westbound at the 133 mile marker when, for an unknown reason, it spun and left the roadway.
The van entered the median, passenger side first and then vaulted into the cab of an eastbound 1998 Volvo car hauler driven by 65 year old Joseph P. Holman of Detroit, Michigan. Although both men were seat belted, Mateer was pronounced dead at the scene by the Steuben County Coroner’s Office and Holman was flown to Parkview Regional Medical Center by Samaritan Air Ambulance.
This crash remains under investigation. Hoeppner was assisted at the scene by the Steuben County Sheriff Department, Steuben County Coroner’s Office, EMS and Samaritan Air Ambulance.
