Winter Weather Summary for December 16-17, 2016
Everyone,
We are still expecting several rounds of wintry weather to affect the area through Sunday.
The first round will be ongoing freezing drizzle, which has already caused numerous accidents across northern Missouri in St. Joseph, Chillicothe, Cameron, and Trenton and nearer the KC Metro area, mainly up near the airport and areas north of the Missouri river. This round of freezing drizzle should persist through Friday night and into Saturday morning.
The second round will be light to moderate snow that will form generally along Interstate 35 and areas just north and south of that interstate. Generally expecting 2 to 4 inches of snow within a 90 to 120 mile band, with perhaps some localized higher amounts within that bad, perhaps up to 5 inches in some areas. The snow will move out of the area Saturday evening and Saturday night, and should be clear of the area by Sunday morning.
Wind chill values will drop to around -10 to -20 degrees along the Missouri River, and perhaps down to -25 degrees nearer the MO/IA border Sunday morning. Wind chills will not recover much during the day on Sunday and should remain at or below zero through the entire day.
While it is rather unlikely that the forecast snow amounts will increase enough to warrant a Winter Storm Warning, should a warning be issued there will be a webinar held Saturday.
