Two in Custody after Stolen Vehicle Found at Walmart

On Friday, December 16, 2016, at about 11:50 PM an Anderson Police Officer was conducting a patrol check of the Walmart parking lot, located at 5000 Rhonda Rd. The Officer noticed a freshly painted 1994 Honda Civic parked in the south parking lot of the business.

The Officer conducted a records check on the vehicle’s rear license plate and found that the license plate had been reported stolen out of the San Jose Police Department since 2012. The vehicle was unoccupied so the Officer checked the vehicle’s VIN number. The Officer found the vehicle had been reported stolen out of the Redding Walmart parking lot about three hours prior.

The Officer set up surveillance on the vehicle and requested an additional Officer respond as backup.

At about 11:56 PM Officers observed two people exit the business and return to the vehicle. Officers quickly moved in and boxed the vehicle into a parking stall. The occupants of the vehicle were detained without incident.

The driver of the vehicle was found to be Nicholas William Hunt, age 23, of Redding. The passenger of the vehicle was found to be Angelica Renee Gilchrist, age 21, of Anderson.

Both subjects were found to have multiple shaved vehicle ignition keys. Gilchrist was found to be in possession of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, stolen credit cards, another person’s driver’s license, and a registration card from another reported stolen vehicle.

It was discovered that Hunt was currently out of custody on bail for a prior vehicle theft case that occurred in late November.

The vehicle was returned to its rightful owner and both Gilchrist and Hunt were booked into the Shasta County Jail on multiple charges.
