Indiana State Police Removing Abandoned Vehicles from the Interstate
Indianapolis, IN- Indiana State troopers in the Indianapolis District are in the process of towing vehicles that were abandoned in the roadway last night and early this morning during the ice storm and resulting traffic crashes.
Troopers are currently towing vehicles that are abandoned in the roadway that are an immediate hazard and impeding traffic. However, due to the forecast of potential bad weather conditions tonight, within the next two hours troopers will begin to impound abandoned vehicles on the emergency shoulders of the interstates in the Indianapolis metro area. Vehicles need to be removed so they are not safety hazards for the traveling public during ice and snow conditions and to allow INDOT workers to properly plow and treat the roadways with abrasives.
Motorists are encouraged to remove their vehicles themselves as an impounded vehicle can cost as much as $150.00 to $200.00 to recover from the wrecker service.
If you find your vehicle has been impounded please contact the Indiana State Police Indianapolis District at 317-899-8577.
