Spencer Woman Arrested after Refusing to Stop for Trooper

Spencer Woman Arrested after Refusing to Stop for Trooper

Putnam County—Last night at 11:21, Indiana State Police trooper David Cox Jr. was patrolling northbound through the town of Cloverdale on US 231, when he noticed a southbound vehicle commit a traffic violation. As Trooper Cox turned around to stop the vehicle, a black 2000 Mercury Mountaineer was now southbound between the violator and the trooper. As Trooper Cox activated his emergency lighting to pass the Mountaineer, the driver of the Mountaineer suddenly sped up to 80 miles-per-hour southbound on US 231 at Market Street eventually reaching speeds of 90mph. The driver of the Mercury Mountaineer continued on, failing to stop for the emergency lights and siren of Trooper Cox. As the suspect attempted to make a right turn to proceed westbound on county road 1200 south, the suspect lost control and struck a ditch and earthen embankment. The vehicle continued on at speeds of 10-15mph due to a defective left front tire from the minor crash. The suspect finally came to a stop on North Cataract Road approximately one-half mile east of county road 325 East in Owen County.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident by Trooper Cox and Owen County Sheriff’s deputies and identified as 18-year-old Desiree D. Bradley of Spencer, IN. Cloverdale Police Officer Sergeant Charlie Hallam and K-9 “Chewy” arrived to assist with “Chewy” giving a positive alert on the vehicle for illegal drugs.

Trooper Cox searched the vehicle and found a loaded .380 caliber in the door pocket and a loaded .22 caliber handgun in a purse. Further searching resulted in two illegal drug smoking pipes and less than one gram of methamphetamine.

Desiree D. Bradley was incarcerated in the Putnam County Jail on charges of Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle (felony); Possession of Methamphetamine (felony); two counts of Possession of a Handgun without a License (misdemeanor); Reckless Driving (misdemeanor); and Possession of Paraphernalia (misdemeanor).

Assisting Trooper Cox were the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, Owen County Sheriff’s Office, Cloverdale Sergeant Charlie Hallam and “Chewy” and Haywood’s Towing.
