Autopsy Conducted on Deceased Homeless Man

Autopsy Conducted on Deceased Homeless Man

Vigo County—This morning, an autopsy was conducted on the homeless man found yesterday in a wooded area encampment on Terre Haute’s near east side. The autopsy was conducted by Pathologist Dr. Roland Kohr at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.

Positive identification has yet to be determined, but investigators believe they know the identity of the deceased and have notified the family. Laboratory analysis of fingerprints is being used to positively identify the victim and this process is currently ongoing and will take a few days.

The preliminary results are the victim succumbed to natural causes; however, toxicology results are also pending. During the autopsy, nothing was detected to indicate foul play.

On Wednesday, December 21 at approximately 9:00a.m., the victim was found deceased by Indiana State Police troopers who were checking on the man at his make-shift encampment in a wooded area a little northwest of the Heritage Trail and adjacent apartments.

New developments will be released as they become available.

Assisting the Indiana State Police were the Terre Haute Police and Fire Departments and the Vigo County Coroner’s Office.

Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
