Chula Vista Police Arrest 2 for Armed Robbery
On Thursday, 12/22/16, at about 2:00 pm two Chula Vista women were robbed of a purse by two suspects, one armed with a handgun. As the victims were getting into their car outside a store in the 1000 block of Third Ave, two male suspects, one armed with a black handgun, approached the victims and demanded money. One suspect grabbed one of the victim’s purse and both suspects ran to an awaiting car. The victims, who drove after the suspects, saw them get into a 2011 white Ford Mustang and were able to get the license plate. The victims were able to recover the purse and contents when the suspect dropped it before getting into the Mustang.
The victims immediately called Chula Vista Police. Officers tracked down the vehicle through the license plate and found it parked unoccupied in the 600 block of Hilltop Drive, Chula Vista. Unmarked plainclothes officers watched the car until about 8:00 pm when two males entered the car and drove away. Patrol Officers conducted a high risk stop on the vehicle and detained two suspects until the victims could be brought to the scene to identify them. Both victims identified the suspects and they were arrested. At the time of the high risk stop, one suspect told police there was a black BB gun inside the car. No gun was found.
Genaro Vasquez, 18 years old, was booked into county jail for Robbery and Conspiracy. He was identified as the suspect with the gun.
The second suspect, a male juvenile, 17 years old, was also arrested for Robbery and Conspiracy and transported to Juvenile Hall.
