Modesto, CA – An investigation is underway into the shooting death of a woman found in southwest Modesto.

Last night at about 9:30 p.m., officers responded to a 9-1-1 call of a person down on California Avenue near S. Carpenter Road. When officers arrived, they found a 62-year-old woman shot near the roadway. Medical personnel on scene transported the victim to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

The investigation is in the early stages and detectives are working to piece together the events that led to the shooting. A motive has not been determined and a suspect or suspects have not been identified.
