Modesto, CA – Detectives continue their investigation into the shooting death of a woman found in southwest Modesto.

On Monday evening at about 9:30 p.m., officers responded to a 9-1-1 call of a person down on California Avenue near S. Carpenter Road. When officers arrived, they found 62-year-old Sheila Marie Sanders shot near the roadway. Medical personnel on scene transported the victim to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

The investigation continues as detectives work to piece together the events that led to the shooting. A motive has not been determined and a suspect or suspects have not been identified.

Detectives ask anyone with information about the shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 209-521-4636. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward. Tipsters may also text information to Crime Stoppers at 274637. Just type “TIP704” along with your message.
