NEW YEAR'S EVE SAFETY REMINDER:
The La Verne Police Department reminds you that celebratory gunfire is not only dangerous, it’s a crime.
New Year’s Eve is a wonderful time to gather with friends and family to ring in the New Year. Inevitably though, despite public warnings by local law enforcement, each year we hear tragic reports of property damage and people being seriously injured or killed by stray bullets that were shot into the air during celebrations.
Willfully discharging a firearm in a grossly negligent manner which could result in injury or death to a person is a violation of section 246.3(a) of the California Penal Code.
If you see someone discharge a firearm in public or into the air, take immediate shelter and call 911.
Let’s have a safe New Year’s Eve and allow our fellow residents to do the same.
