Pursuit of Stolen Vehicle Ends with Arrest of Columbus Man
Columbus-Early this morning, at approximately 3:00 am, the Indiana State Police arrested a Columbus man following a pursuit of a vehicle that had just been stolen from a Columbus business.
The incident occurred when Trooper Korry Clark attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 2006 Black Volkswagen Jetta at the intersection of State Road 46 and County Road 500 West in Bartholomew County for not having working taillights. The vehicle, driven by Nathaniel L. Jones-Knight, age 18, Columbus, Indiana then fled from Trp. Clark. At the same time, the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department received information that the vehicle Trp. Clark was pursuing had just been stolen from the Taco Bell located on 25th Street in Columbus.
Jones-Knight led Trp. Clark and other officers on a pursuit that lasted ten minutes at speeds between 20 and 60 mph. The vehicle ended in the Harrison Lakes neighborhood where it began to have mechanical troubles. Jones-Knight stopped the vehicle on Raintree Drive about a mile west of County Road 525 West, where he then fled from the vehicle on foot.
Trooper Jacob Tolle and Bartholomew County Deputy Lanning soon found Jones-Knight hiding nearby. He was then taken into custody without further incident. He was also found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine and hypodermic syringe.
Jones-Knight was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital where he submitted to a blood draw for intoxication. He was then transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where he was incarcerated on charges of Auto Theft, Possession of Methamphetamine, Resisting Law Enforcement in a Vehicle, Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe, Criminal Recklessness with a Vehicle, and Operating While Intoxicated (Controlled Substance).
Jones-Knight will soon be given an initial court date to appear in Bartholomew County.
