Two Men Arrested After New Year’s Day Traffic Stop
Seymour-Yesterday, shortly after 1:00 pm, the Indiana State Police arrested two Corydon, Indiana men on numerous drug related charges following a traffic stop on I-65 in Jackson County, Indiana.
The investigation began when Trooper Randel Miller conducted a traffic stop on a 2001 Honda Civic Southbound on I-65 near the 51 mile marker, just north of Seymour. During the course of the traffic stop, Trp. Miller became suspicious about criminal activity taking place. Trp. Miller’s K-9, Jinx, was deployed and alerted to the odor of illegal drugs coming from the vehicle.
During a search of the vehicle, Trp. Miller located approximately 15 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 90 grams of suspected marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. The driver of the vehicle, Joshua A. Dewitt, age 23, Corydon, Indiana and passenger Tod D. Mertz Jr, age 28, Corydon, Indiana were both arrested on numerous drug related charges. They were both transported to the Jackson County Jail where they were incarcerated on charges of dealing methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, dealing marijuana, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Both men will soon be given an initial court date to appear in Jackson County Circuit Court.
Trp. Miller was assisted by Sgt. Brian Wilson, Indiana State Police, and Officer Bart Bevers, Seymour Police Department.
