...MAJOR LONG DURATION WINTER STORM TO IMPACT THE WEST TONIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT... .SEVERAL HIGH IMPACT WEATHER SYSTEMS WILL IMPACT THE WEST THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT LEADING TO A MAJOR LONG DURATION WINTER STORM. THERE WILL BE LULLS OF SNOW DURING THIS PERIOD BUT THERE WILL ALSO BE MULTIPLE PERIODS OF VERY HEAVY SNOW AND INCREASING WIND. THE STAR VALLEY AND LOWER ELEVATIONS OF SOUTHERN LINCOLN COUNTY COULD SEE ENOUGH WARM AIR WORK INTO THE AREA TO PRODUCE SOME RAIN OR RAIN AND SNOW MIXTURE LATER SUNDAY INTO SUNDAY NIGHT BEFORE COLDER AIR RETURNS. A QUICK BURST OF HEAVIER SNOW IS EXPECTED TONIGHT BEFORE A LULL ON SUNDAY. HEAVY SNOW WILL LIKELY FALL MUCH OF SUNDAY NIGHT AND POSSIBLY THROUGH MONDAY BEFORE ANOTHER LULL OCCURS MONDAY NIGHT. MORE HEAVY SNOW IS EXPECTED TUESDAY. HEAVY SNOW WILL ALSO LIKELY OCCUR WEDNESDAY AND WEDNESDAY NIGHT BEFORE FINALLY TAPERING OFF ON THURSDAY. ...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 AM MST THURSDAY... THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN RIVERTON HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR SNOW AND WIND WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 AM MST THURSDAY. THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.
* TIMING...A BURST OF HEAVIER SNOW IS EXPECTED TONIGHT BEFORE A LULL OR LIGHTER SNOW FALLS ON SUNDAY. A SIGNIFICANT PERIOD OF HEAVY SNOW WILL RETURN FOR SUNDAY NIGHT AND MONDAY. ANOTHER LULL IS EXPECTED MONDAY NIGHT WITH MORE HEAVY SNOW AT TIMES TUESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT.
* SNOW TOTALS...1 TO 2 FEET IN THE MOUNTAINS WITH 4 TO 12 INCHES ACROSS THE LOWER ELEVATIONS BY TUESDAY AFTERNOON. ADDITIONAL SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT.
* WIND AND VISIBILITY...WEST TO SOUTHWEST 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS OVER 40 MPH IN THE MOUNTAINS PRODUCING AREAS OF BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW. VISIBILITIES UNDER ONE QUARTER MILE AT TIMES IN HEAVIER SNOW PERIODS.
* MAIN IMPACT...ROADS WILL BE SLICK AND SNOW PACKED. BACKCOUNTRY TRAVEL WILL BE HAMPERED.
