Hollister Fire Dept. was dispatched at 01:33 to Lovers Lane in Northern San Benito County for reports of flooding from the Pacheco Creek between Shore Road and Hwy 152.
Over a 4 hour period, 108 residents were evacuated (59 self-evacuated, 49 rescued, 15 were by boat, and 34 by vehicle). Approximately 39 were taken to Veteran’s Hall in Hollister. American Red Cross provided shelter and food.
Several agencies assisted in the evacuation: Hollister Fire Dept., San Benito County Sheriff’s Office, San Benito County Search and Rescue, South Santa Clara County/CALFIRE, San Benito County Office of Emergency Services and Emergency Medical Services, American Medical Response, COG, City of Hollister Animal Control and rescue boats were provided by San Jose Fire.
No injuries were reported.
Evacuations were handled successfully by the above noted agencies. The County is in the process of evaluating damage and will be working with the State should an emergency declaration be needed.
For evacuees with animals, small pets can be brought to the Animal Shelter at 1331 South Street in Hollister. Horses and small livestock can be brought to Bolado Park at 9000 Airline Hwy., Tres Pinos – check in at the office. Bolado Park also has trailer hook-ups. Cattle can go to 101 Livestock in Aromas (4400 Hwy. 101). Please check in with the office. You can also call the Animal Shelter at 831-636-4080 for questions.
