Los Gatos Monte Sereno Traffic Update
The Los Gatos Monte Sereno Police Department wishes to thank the community for their help and patience during yesterday’s extraordinary traffic delays as a result of numerous road closures and weather related complications. We understand the substantial impact these issues caused the community and the region as a whole.
At this time many of the road closures and or weather related events that contributed to the traffic delays have been resolved. It is anticipated that today’s afternoon traffic commute will be somewhat impacted, but largely improved from yesterday notwithstanding any other unforeseen emergencies or weather issues. The below is a summary of the existing known road conditions and closures currently affecting the Los Gatos and Monte Sereno areas as of 3:15 p.m.
• The California Highway Patrol has advised that all lanes of Highway 17 are open and functioning. The mudslide in the area of the “Cats” south of Los Gatos has been cleared and no further work is anticipated at this time.
• Caltrans has reported that the intersection of Highway 9 and Sanborn Road is closed intermittently due to instability and mudslides that crews are actively working to address. Additionally, there is 1-way controlled traffic 4.4 miles south of Saratoga at Redwood Gulch due to a rock slide resulting in traffic delays and Highway 9 at Glengarry Road is closed. Bear Creek Road 2 miles north of Highway 9 and Highway 35 is closed.
• Los Gatos Public Works Department has related that north and south traffic on University Avenue is closed due to a mudslide in the area of Vasona Dam. It is unknown at this time when it will be re-opened.
• Monte Sereno Public Works Department has reported Ridgecrest Avenue has been opened to vehicle traffic and electrical power has been restored to residents by PG&E.
As a result of these known conditions the Los Gatos Monte Sereno Police Department has added additional staffing in an attempt to help mitigate the afternoon and evening commute issues as well as any other unforeseen emergencies. The Police Department asks the community for their patience during these difficult circumstances and to always call 911 in case of an emergency.
This information is being obtained and monitored by LGMSPD through our partnerships with CHP and Caltrans and their public websites.
