Friday the 13th Proves Unlucky for Wanted Felon
On Friday, January 13, 2017, at about 4:35 A.M., an Anderson Police Officer observed a green 1998 Dodge Caravan parked in the Jack in the Box drive thru. The Officer recognized the driver as Benjamin Travis WALLACE, and knew he had an active felony warrant.
The Officer waited for WALLACE to leave the restaurant, and then attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle in the area of the Deschutes Road on ramp to Interstate 5. WALLACE failed to yield for the officers emergency lights and continued north onto Interstate 5. WALLACE exited the freeway at the Balls Ferry Road off ramp.
WALLACE fled from the vehicle on foot, while the vehicle was still in motion, leaving behind his nine month pregnant girlfriend in the passenger seat. The vehicle then collided with a roadway sign. WALLACE ran northwest up a steep embankment into the bushes that front Interstate 5 northbound.
Officers converged on the area and a perimeter was set up. Announcements were made to WALLACE that if he did not surrender K9 Areo would be deployed and find him. Wallace failed to follow commands and failed to surrender. K9 Areo was deployed and located WALLACE hiding in dense bushes. WALLACE failed to listen to officers commands and K9 Areo was used to apprehend WALLACE. K9 Areo pulled WALLACE from the bushes where officers were able to take WALLACE into custody. WALLACE was received medical attention at the scene.
WALLACE was transported the Shasta County Jail where he was arrested for an outstanding felony warrant, resisting arrest, felony reckless evading, driving under the influence, and driving on a suspended license.
The girlfriend was released from the scene due to her cooperation and lack of criminal activity.
