Weather Emergency Update: City Hall Closed Today at Noon

The National Weather Service in St. Louis has issued an ice storm warning for our region through noon, Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017. Due to the winter weather emergency, the City of St. Peters has announced the following closings:

St. Peters City Hall will close to the general public today, Friday, Jan. 13, at noon.

The St. Peters Rec-Plex will close today, Jan. 13, at noon, and the Natatorium (pools) will close at 11 a.m. The Rec-Plex is scheduled to reopen on Saturday, Jan. 14, at noon, weather permitting. The Winter Blast ISI skating competition this weekend is cancelled and will be rescheduled.

The Cultural Arts Centre will close today, Jan. 13, at noon, and will be closed to the general public on Saturday, Jan. 14.

Earth Centre and Recycle City will close at 11 a.m., today, Friday, Jan. 13. Recycle City and Earth Centre are closed on Saturday, Jan. 14. Animal Control is available for emergencies only by calling Police Dispatch, 636-278-2222.

Unnecessary travel is not recommended during this storm, with roadways possibly becoming treacherous or impassible at times.
Due to this weather emergency, trash service has been cancelled for City of St. Peters customers for today, Friday, Jan. 13. Please do not set out your trash carts for Friday service in St. Peters. Trash collection was cancelled due to the timing and predicted severity of the approaching ice storm. The City’s normal collection schedule will resume on Monday, Jan. 16. Tuesday/Friday trash customers can place extra bags of trash outside the cart on Tuesday, Jan. 17, if necessary.

The City also urges residents to park their cars on their driveways, rather than on the street, during the storm. By moving obstructions such as cars and trash carts from the street, ice and snow removal crews can work more effectively and safely to treat and clear our roads.

Ice removal operations will continue as needed in St. Peters during the storm.

The National Weather Service expects the ice storm to result in hazardous travel conditions, especially on bridges, overpasses and untreated roads. Parking lots and sidewalks will become slippery, as well. Damage to trees and power lines is also possible. An ice storm warning means that a severe and dangerous amount of ice accumulation is occurring or expected to accumulate. The heavy ice accumulation will make travel dangerous or impossible. If you must travel, exercise extreme caution. Begin your travel with a full tank of gas and carry a winter storm kit, which includes a shovel, flashlight, cell phone, food and water, and blankets or extra warm clothing.
For the latest information on the City of St. Peters’ response to this storm, including any Rec-Plex or Cultural Arts Centre cancellations, please go to the City’s website, www.stpetersmo.net.

The Rec-Plex also updates its weather hotline at 636-939-2386, ext. 1604.

St. Peters residents can report weather-related concerns to the St. Peters Snow Line at 636-477-6600, ext. 1738. If there is no answer, please leave a detailed message. This line is checked regularly.
