Going "to the snow?" Please be prepared, and remember some of these important tips.
With a thick new snowfall, many in Southern California will see the snow in the local mountains and head there this weekend. Many are surprised, however, to find mountain roads and services severely impacted by unusual crowds. We ask that you come prepared, and make safety a high priority.
- Carry snow chains in your car (and know how to use them!)
- Gas up the car in the flatlands. There are no gas stations in most local mountains.
- Bring suitable gloves, boots and jackets for snow players of all sizes. It can be miserable without them.
- Don’t block roadways or parked vehicles. Do not double-park. Emergency vehicles and others need safe thoroughfares. Don’t let a parking ticket or tow ruin a good day.
- Bring plenty of food and water. There are few sources and services, especially with the extra crowds expected.
- Be prepared for heavy traffic, drive slowly in wet or icy conditions, and allow plenty of travel time.
