Freezing rain
An expansive area of freezing rain over southern Kansas and Missouri will continue to lift north through the early to mid-morning hours Sunday. Forecast ice accumulation has trended downward, though hazardous roadways are still expected until Sunday afternoon for most areas.
Prolonged freezing rain and resulting slick roadways will impact areas north of Highway 36 until early Monday morning. Areas south of I-70 will see improving conditions as freezing rain transitions to rain during the afternoon. Some uncertainty remains with afternoon and evening temperatures for Kansas City. Temperatures will remain near the freezing mark near Kansas City by the afternoon, thus slightly higher ice accumulation is possible should temperatures trend cooler. The freezing line will slowly work its way north by late Sunday evening, with all freezing rain transitioning to rain by early Monday morning. Ice accumulations will generally remain below 1/4", with slightly higher amounts possible across northwest Missouri.
