Boil Water Notice Update
The boil water notice, re-issued due to lack of disinfection (chlorine) in December, is now back to our normal boil water notice (for lack of filtration).
The Adak municipal water system has been on a boil water notice since 2007 due to lack of filtration. The only solution to remove the system from all boil water notices will be to construct a new water treatment plant that can provide filtration to the system. The city is working with the State and Federal Government on design/construction of a new water treatment plant.
As this has been a longstanding issue, as long as proper disinfection, or chlorine, is in the system, boiling your water is recommened. When there is not proper disinfection, as was the case in December, boiling your drinking water is required for your safety.
If you have further questions, please call the City Manager at 907-592-4500.
Instructions:
We recommend to continue to boil drinking water but less critical due to adequate chemical treatment now present in the system.
