HMPD Arrests Two Men for Robbery and Kidnapping.

On Monday, January 23, 2017 at approximately 8:30pm, Hope Mills Police Officers responded to the area of Carlie C’s grocery store on North Main Street in reference to a possible disturbance between a male and a female. Upon arrival, Officers met with witnesses who pointed out the participants in the disturbance to them. Officers made contact with the two subjects near an ATM and began to speak with them about the disturbance. During the course of their conversation Officers noticed that the female subject was exhibiting signs of distress and other behavioral cues. At that time, the Officers separated the subjects and began to speak to them separately. During the course of the conversation with the male subject, later identified as Tavon Donte Adams, 19 of the 200 block of Waxhaw Drive, Fayetteville, ran away from the Officers that were speaking to him. The Officers chased him on foot and followed him to a residence on Dalstrom Lane where he attempted to hide inside the residence. Officers gained entry into the residence and took him into custody. After taking Adams into custody and speaking with the female subject, Officers learned that Adams had forcibly taken the female from a residence in the area by gunpoint and then forced her to go with him to the area of Carlie C’s for the purpose of removing money from the ATM located in the parking lot. While inside the residence that Adams ran into, Officers and Investigators found that another subject inside the residence, identified as Nicholas Dennis Coleman, 23 of the 20 block of Dewey Lane, Bunn Level, was also involved with Adams in the crime and he was also taken into custody.

Adams and Coleman were transported to the Cumberland County Detention Center where they were jailed under the following charges:

1 count of Felony Robbery With a Dangerous Weapon
1 count of Felony Second Degree Kidnapping

Nicholas Dennis Coleman $50,000 bond
