Dos Palos Police Department took Omar Villafana into custody without incident at the Fresno, CA Amtrak Station at approximately 11:00 P.M. on January 23, 2017.

Omar reached out to a close friend and requested the police department meet him at that location.

Upon contacting Villafana, he followed officers direction and was taken into custody without further incident.

Villafana was transported to the Merced County Main Jail where he was booked for the Shooting death of the victim.

The investigation remains active.

The weapon used during the shooting has not been recovered which is part of the on going investigation.

"Thank you to the Merced Sun Star and other media outlets that allow us to get a message out to Villafana. We believe it was that tool in part that led to his surrender."

SUSPECT:

Omar Villifana was last seen on foot in a red hoodie, gray sweat pants and cowboy boots. HMA 6'00" 190 black hair, brown eyes.

If you seen Villifana, contact law enforcement. Suspect is likely still armed.

The victim of this mornings shooting has died.
