K9 CHANCE GETS GUNS AND DRUGS
On 01/23/2017 at approximately 5:21pm an Anderson Police Officer was extra patrolling the area of Rhonda Rd., Pleasant Hills Dr., and the nearby Walmart parking lot. The officer noticed a silver Lexus SUV driving through the parking lot and saw that it did not have front or rear license plates. The Officer followed the vehicle as it moved from one parking space to another. Due to the observed vehicle code violation of not having any license plates displayed and the large number of stolen vehicles found in Shasta County and specifically the Walmart parking lot, the Officer initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle.
The vehicle yielded to the Officer and the driver was contacted. The driver was later identified as Johnathon White, 35, of Wildomar, Ca (formerly of Shasta County). During the contact WHITE was unreasonably nervous and did not possess any identification. WHITE complied when asked to exit the vehicle but could not explain why he was so nervous.
While examining the vehicle Anderson Police K9 Chance was deployed in a narcotics search capacity. K9 Chance provided an immediate alert on the vehicle to the presence of narcotics. The officer, being assisted by a Shasta County Sheriff Deputy, attempted to detain WHITE in handcuffs. After a brief struggle WHITE was detained without further incident and no injuries to any party were incurred. A search of WHITE’s person revealed two bags of suspected cocaine.
A search of the vehicle revealed a loaded .357 pistol that had been reported as stolen to the Redding Police Department earlier in the day, a sawed off rifle, a third bag of suspected cocaine, a large amount of currency, and digital scales.
WHITE was placed under arrest and booked into the Shasta County Jail on several drug and weapons related charges.
