Advisory

During the early morning hours of Friday, Jan 20th, several homes and cars were entered. See email for more info.

During the early morning hours of Friday, 01-20-2017, several homes and cars were entered in the Old River neighborhood of Rocky River, including Riverwood Ave, Purnell Ave, Magnolia Dr and Northview Rd. All of the homes were entered via unlocked doors or windows, and all cars entered were left unlocked.
One purse was removed from a house and was located outside missing cash. Cash was taken from a purse in a second home. One car was stolen from Northview Rd. using keys taken from within the home.
No suspects were seen, and no one was injured during these incidents.
These crimes are unacceptable in our community and are being investigated by police. In the meantime, there are things residents and community members can do to prevent them or similar crimes from recurring.
First and foremost, please continue to lock house doors and windows, garage doors and windows and cars. This is the best way to reduce the likelihood of a theft from occurring.
Do not leave valuables in plain view within your homes or cars.
Utilize exterior lighting, including motion sensing lights and landscape lighting to illuminate the exterior of your home, particularly near doors and windows.
If you see or hear anything unusual, particularly dogs barking at unusual times, consider that it is because of an intruder or prowler and call police immediately. Pay attention to what is happening in your neighborhood and notify police as you see things that don't seem right. This could include suspicious persons, slow moving or parked vehicles that are not common in your neighborhood, particularly during early morning hours, motion lights activating for unknown reasons, seeing people you don't recognize in yards, walking up to houses, trying doors etc.
The Rocky River Police Department has a Certified Crime Prevention Specialist, Ptl. Chris Camp. Ptl. Camp is available to help organize Neighborhood Block Watches and is available to answer questions or assist with safety concerns at your home. He can be contacted at [email protected] or 440-799-8212.

Sincerely,

Chief Kelly Stillman
