Rural Dearborn County Crash Claims Life of Moores Hill Man
Moores Hill-Yesterday, at approximately 6:30 pm, the Indiana State Police responded to a two vehicle head-on personal injury crash on Sparta Pike near State Road 350 which ultimately claimed the life of a Moores Hill man.
The initial investigation by Trp. Andrew Garrett indicated that a red 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan being driven by Rocky McMurray, age 47, Aurora, Indiana was traveling eastbound on Sparta Pike when the vehicle crossed the center of the roadway into the path of a westbound 2005 Dodge Neon being driven by Steven Ahaus, age 48, Moores Hill, Indiana. The two vehicles collided nearly head-on in the center of the roadway.
As a result of the collision Ahaus sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Dearborn County Coroner’s Office. McMurray was transported to the Dearborn County Hospital before being transported to University of Cincinnati Hospital for treatment of internal injuries.
Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash. McMurray tested over twice the legal limit on a preliminary breath test at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
At the conclusion of the investigation, it will be turned over to the Dearborn County Prosecutor’s Office for the possibility of filing charges related to the crash.
The Ahaus family has been notified.
Trp. Garrett was assisted by Troopers Jacob Tolle, Jared Black, Kyle Stovall, and Nathaniel Dayadharum. The Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department, Dearborn County EMS, Moores Hill Fire Department, and Dearborn County Coroner’s Office also assisted in the investigation.
