Overnight Snow Kept Putnamville Troopers Busy
Putnamville—Arrival of an overnight snowfall has kept Putnamville Troopers very busy. Beginning at 10p.m. last evening and lasting until 7a.m. this morning, troopers responded to the following on Interstate 70 in Vigo and Clay counties:
Personal injuring crashes…………..2
Property damage crashes…………..10
Vehicle slide-offs…………………..15
Assist stranded motorists…………..4
The personal injury crashes resulted in no life-threatening injuries. The incidents were the result of vehicles and tractor-trailers traveling too fast for conditions and leaving the roadway striking objects or jackknifing.
In addition to the overnight calls, this morning at 8:10, Indiana State Police and Parke County emergency agencies responded to a one-vehicle rollover crash on US 41 near the 132 mile-marker (commonly referred to as Snake Hollow). Preliminary investigation revealed a blue 2001 Ford Ranger, pickup driven by 18-year-old Jacob M. Collom of Mecca, IN., was southbound on US 41 and lost control on the icy roadway as he attempted a left curve. The pickup left the roadway on the west side and rolled over.
Jacob Collom was not injured. His passengers, 17-year-old Declan Griffin and 16-year-old Jonetta Overstreet were transported to Union Hospital of Clinton with complaints of pain. All three were wearing seatbelts and undoubtedly reduced and/or save their lives. They were on their way to Riverton Parke High School.
The crash was investigated by ISP Master Trooper Gary Winters. Assisting were ISP Trooper Michael Organ, Parke County Sheriff’s Deputy Kyle Stonebraker, Mecca and Lyford Fire/Rescue Departments, and Parke County EMS.
