Late Morning Semi Rollover Stops Traffic on SR 159
Clay County—This morning at 10:15, Indiana State Police responded to a semi rollover on State Road 159 in the town of Coalmont. The rollover spilled several bushels of corn into a private yard and caused the roadway to be closed for nearly three and one-half hours.
Preliminary investigation revealed a blue 1994 Peterbuilt tractor pulling a grain trailer, driven by 69-year-old Gary Byerly of Coal City, IN., was southbound on SR 159 in Coalmont. Another motorist was northbound on SR 159 and Byerly attempted to maneuver slightly to the right to allow a safe pass. In doing so, the trailer drifted off the roadway taking with it the tractor. The tractor-trailer then rolled onto its right side and dispensed several bushel of corn into a nearby private yard.
No injuries were reported and no citations were issued. The trucking company was B.B.L. Trucking of Coal City, IN.
The crash was investigated by ISP Senior Trooper Bill Bradbury. Assisting were ISP Sergeant Jared Nicoson, Clay County Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Heaton, and Coalmont Fire Department.
