Phone scam reported; attempt made to speak with a resident using an emulated city phone number. See attached message. 
The Sleepy Eye Police Department has been made aware of a scam that is happening in our area. A resident took a call from 507-794-6650 and the caller ID stated it was from the City of Sleepy Eye. When answered, an automated voice asked the resident to press #1. The resident hung up so it is unknown what was going to follow. The number is associated with the Sleepy Eye PUC as a secondary number. The City of Sleepy Eye has no automated system to contact residence and did not contact the resident that was called. This is a scam; the phone number was emulated by a criminal to make it seem more legitimate. If you receive a phone call like this, please don’t give the caller any information. The city will never call a resident and ask for personal information.
