Modesto, CA – Two Modesto men were arrested in connection to a Friday evening shooting that left a man dead.

On Friday, January 27, 2017 at about 7:40 p.m., several 9-1-1 callers reported hearing gunshots and seeing a man down on the sidewalk at Ortega Drive and Galvez Avenue. When officers responded, they found 39-year-old Kalpesh Patel of Modesto, suffering from gunshot wounds. Patel was rushed to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

Detectives believe that Patel was in front of a house in the 1600 block of Ortega when he was shot. Surveillance video at a nearby business captured two suspects fleeing on foot after the shooting. Detectives identified those suspects as 26-year-old Jose Lopez and 21-year-old Salvador Gallegos, both of Modesto. Gallegos and Lopez were booked into the Stanislaus County Jail for murder and criminal conspiracy.
