Fraud Friday--Puget Sound Energy Scam
A local business representative called police on Thursday to report a scam call they received from a fraudster calling to ask for $500 via wire transfer. The caller used a method called "spoof dialing" which showed up on the call recipient's caller ID as "Puget Sound Energy". The caller also seemed to know about the billing information for the business, however, the astute call recipient knew better than to provide further information or money.
If you receive a call like this, please take the time to research the source of the request before sending money or providing further information. Most businesses will notify you in writing if you owe them money and will not request money via wire transfer. If you think the request is legitimate, hang up and call the company directly to inquire about your account status.
