Traffic Stop Yields Impaired Driver and Cocaine

Vigo County—Last night at 11:40, Indiana State Police Troopers Tim Rader and Courtland Woodruff stopped a gold 2004 Chevrolet passenger car for disregarding a traffic control signal northbound on 14th Street at Wabash Avenue in Terre Haute.

During conversations with the driver, identified as 30-year-old Fredrick S. Johnson of Terre Haute, IN., troopers noticed what appeared to be signs of intoxication. Johnson was taken into custody and during his arrest, troopers located approximately 10.7 grams of suspected cocaine in Johnson’s pants pocket. A chemical test revealed Fredrick S. Johnson had a BAC of .11%.

Johnson was incarcerated in the Vigo County Jail on preliminary charges of Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated (misdemeanor); Operating a Motor Vehicle While Never Licensed (misd); Possession of Cocaine (level 4 felony); and Open Container Violation (infraction).

The street value of the alleged cocaine is approximately $1000.

Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
