Officer Involved Shooting Leads to Death of Brookville Man
Brookville-This morning, shortly after 6:00 am, the Brookville Police Department and Franklin County Sheriff’s Department requested the Indiana State Police respond to 11191 State Road 101 near Brookville, Indiana to investigate an officer involved shooting that took place at the residence.
Indiana State Police Detectives responded to the scene to conduct the investigation. The initial investigation by Det. Kip Main determined that a woman showed up at the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department shortly after 5:00 am to report that a family member who also lives at the residence was acting erratically and causing a disturbance at the home.
A Franklin County Deputy along with two officers with the Brookville Police Department soon arrived on scene and made contact with Donald D. Parker, Jr, age 29, who was holding at least one firearm while on the porch of the residence. The officers allegedly gave Parker orders to drop the firearm and he did not comply. Parker then pointed a firearm in the direction of the officers, causing the two Brookville officers to fire their weapons at Parker. Parker was struck at least once by the officers’ rounds.
The officers immediately rendered first aid to Parker and requested EMS. Parker was transported to Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana where he soon died as a result of his injuries.
Parker’s family has been notified.
One of the officers involved in the incident is a 17 year veteran of the Brookville Police Department while the second officer has served with the Brookville Police Department for 2 ½ years. The officer’s names will be withheld at this time. As per their department protocol, both officers will be placed on administrative leave.
At the conclusion of the investigation, it will be turned over to the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
No further information will be released at this time.
