Winter Storm Advisory
The area is under a Winter Storm Advisory with forecasts suggesting 4-6 inches of snow although we are close to the line for heavier impacts. Temperatures will quickly fall to freezing overnight as winds increase to 15-30 mph. Precipitation starts early AM hours likely as rain, freezing rain first then sleet and finally heavy snow for the AM commute expecting up to 2 inches per hour to fall. Visibility will be affected, heavy winds with icing on roadways underneath the snow which will be a heavy wet snow. Residents are encouraged to avoid driving if possible, be careful for slips and falls, and use caution near poles, wires, trees, and unstable structures which could fall as heavy snow accumulates. Shoveling heavy wet snow can lead to medical issues such as cardiac, strokes, and injuries. The storm should start to clear after after noon however the windchill will be in the teens tomorrow and single digits on Friday thus snow packed roadways and slush will continue to freeze. Be mindful to avoid exposure for children, elderly, and pets in these extreme cold conditions. Vehicles should be clear of snow and ice before traveling roadways. Exposed pipes may freeze and vehicles may experience mechanical issues thus extra outwear and blankets should be available.
