Winter Storm Warning in effect for our area from late tonight through Thursday afternoon.
The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning for our area from late tonight through Thursday afternoon.
Significant Snow later Tonight and Thursday
High Impact to Travel during Thursday Morning Commute
Changes with this briefing:
Increasing concern for a brief period of sleet as precipitation changes from rain to snow. There is high confidence in the precipitation occurring, but there remains some uncertainty with the timing for the transition from rain to sleet to snow, and thus snow amounts.
Timing:
Onset: 10 PM – 4 AM from west to east (starting as all rain for I-95 corridor eastward)
Transition: 1 AM – 7 AM from the I-95 corridor to the east . A mix of rain, snow, and sleet is possible during this time.
Heaviest snow: 3 AM – Noon. Snow rates up to 2 inches per hour at this time.
Ending Time: Noon- 7 PM from west to east
Hazards/Impacts:
Snow: Forecast snow totals are 8 to 12 inches
Wind: northerly wind of 15 to 30 mph gusts up to 40 mph especially along the coast.
Impacts:
Significant impacts to travel especially for the Thursday morning commute due to heavy snow, gusty winds, reduced visibility, and snow packed roads.
Impacts may continue into Thursday night as below freezing temperatures are expected to continue.
The snow should be wet in consistency and therefore will tend to stick to trees and power lines, possibly resulting in some power outages.
A weather warning indicates a confirmed, current and present danger to this area.
Instructions:
Take necessary safety precautions.
