See Something, Say Something - LA County experiencing a rise in Burglaries

DATE OF RELEASE: February 9, 2017

Time: 1900 hours

A recent rise in burglaries across Los Angeles County is prompting the West Covina Police Department to promote the “See Something. Say Something.” Campaign.

The number of burglaries also rose significantly in the City of West Covina over the past few months (31%), with many of them committed in the same fashion.

The West Covina Police Department is asking for the community’s assistance is helping combat this issue. “See Something. Say Something.” is one way to help.

With these burglaries, the Modus Operandi, or “M/O” is that a suspect will knock on the front door to see if anyone is home. When someone does come to the door, the suspect will generally ask for someone by name and then leave. When no one answers the door knock, the suspect will enter the backyard and force their way into the home by breaking a window or slider. A vehicle will come by and pick up the suspect and leave the location with stolen property. There have been reported instances where a break in occurred with the resident at home who had chosen not to answer the door knock.

Arrests have been made of suspects connected to some of the burglaries based, in part, to the description and information provided by a resident or neighbor that called to report what they deemed suspicious.

If you SEE SOMETHING unusual, something you know shouldn't be there, someone's behavior doesn't seem quite right, or a vehicle that is strange to the area, SAY SOMETHING - because only you know what is normal and what is not in your neighborhood.

To report suspicious activity, contact the West Covina Police Department. Describe specifically what you observed, including:

 Who or what you saw;
 When you saw it;
 Where it occurred;
 What they look like; and
 Why it's suspicious.

If there is an emergency, call 9–1–1.

You can remain anonymous when calling if you wish.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact the West Covina Police Department at (626) 939-8557.
