Wrong Way Driver on I-69 Arrested for DUI

Wrong Way Driver on I-69 Arrested for DUI

Pike County – Yesterday at approximately 5:00 p.m., Indiana State Police and Pike County Sheriff’s Department responded to I-69 after several concerned citizens contacted 911 about a wrong way driver traveling northbound in the southbound lanes near the 39.5 mile-marker, which is south of the SR 61 exit. The wrong way driver was driving a 2002 Ford Escort. Moments later the 911 dispatcher received another call that the wrong way driver was now driving north in the northbound lanes near the 41.5 mile-marker. Trooper Risley spotted the vehicle at the 45.5 mile-marker and immediately activated his emergency lights.  The vehicle exited I-69 at SR 61 where the driver almost struck another vehicle that was stopped on the ramp to turn onto SR 61. The driver continued north on SR 61 a short distance before finally stopping. The driver refused to exit his vehicle and had to be forcibly removed. He was arrested without further incident. The driver was identified as Jason Jones, 43, of Washington, IN.  A search of the vehicle revealed three 100mg bottles of Methadone. Further investigation revealed Jones had consumed two bottles when he was supposed to only consume one bottle.  Field sobriety tests indicated Jones was impaired, but he refused to submit to a chemical test.  Jones was arrested and taken to the Pike County Jail where he is currently being held on bond.
